About this Workshop

This session is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to take control of your appraisal process, making it a relevant and beneficial experience tailored to your needs. We’ll explore the significance of appraisals and the advantages they offer both individuals and managers.

Why attend?

In the professional landscape, annual performance conversations are a common practice where past achievements are assessed, and future plans are crafted. Attending this session empowers you to not just participate in your appraisal but to actively shape it, ensuring it becomes a valuable tool for your personal and professional development.

What you will do:

During this session, you will embark on a journey to transform your appraisal into a powerful development tool. We’ll start by understanding why performance reviews matter and how they benefit both individuals and their managers. You’ll then have the opportunity to craft and refine two SMART objectives, which will serve as a foundation for your appraisal preparation. The session will guide you in effectively planning for the appraisal meeting, ensuring you make the most of this crucial interaction.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the importance of performance reviews and recognise the benefits they offer to both individuals and managers.
  • Develop SMART objectives as a foundation for productive discussions with their manager during the appraisal process.
  • Apply a straightforward framework to effectively plan for and actively engage in annual performance reviews, ultimately leveraging these conversations to drive personal growth and development.

This workshop most closely aligns to Empowering Professional Development, by encouraging participants to take the lead on preparing for and engaging in their own appraisal or annual review. It also relates to Focusing on Results and Taking Accountability
