About this Workshop

The aim of this workshop is to equip you with the essential tools and knowledge needed to confidently face the changes in the higher education sector. We will delve into the concepts of agility and adaptability, exploring their significance and providing strategies to adopt an agile mindset. Additionally, we will address the common issue of resistance to change and empower you with tools and techniques to enhance your personal resilience.

What you will do:  

During this workshop, you will actively engage in learning and application. We will begin by understanding agility, adaptability, and how to cultivate an agile mindset. Following this, we’ll explore the reasons behind resistance to change and equip you with the skills to build your own resilience. In the second part of the workshop, you’ll participate in hands-on activities, applying a simple yet effective problem-solving model. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with various tools that foster creative and innovative thinking. These skills will enable you to develop robust solutions for both new and ongoing challenges.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: 

  • Describe agility and adaptability, articulate their benefits and demonstrate how to cultivate an agile mindset. 
  • Identify the factors contributing to resistance to change and apply strategies to enhance personal resilience. 
  • Apply a straightforward problem-solving model and utilise a variety of tools to encourage creative and innovative thinking, ultimately enabling the development of robust solutions for both new and ongoing challenges in the higher education sector. 

This workshop most closely aligns to Being Agile and Adaptable, by equipping participants with knowledge and skills to embrace agility and adaptability in order to confidently navigate change.

Sophie Lovejoy

Independent coach, facilitator & OD consultant

Sophie has worked in the HE sector since 1995, in roles spanning technical, research, teaching, and organisational learning and development. Her time as Director of Organisational Development for the 1994 Group saw her leading collaborative development programmes across 18 universities, and she has since worked across the whole spectrum of UK HEIs.

Since leaving the University of Westminster in 2018, Sophie has worked with HE clients to deliver a variety of organisational development activities, including an Athena Swan silver award and a leadership programme for academics. She is an ILM qualified coach, with a particular interest in working with those who are in early to mid career Professional Services roles, and has extensive experience of developing and facilitating workshops (whether courses or bespoke team interventions, both online and in person). She is also co-founder of Thinking Outside, providing nature-based organisational development for teams.

Sophie also convenes the Organisational Development in Higher Education group, and is part of the AHEP consultancy team.
