International Opportunity: represent the AUA at AAA

14 to 15 May 2020 | East London, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa

Are you looking for an exciting new way to challenge yourself and invest in your professional development? Why not consider applying to represent the AUA at the third annual conference of the Association for Academic Administrators in May 2020?

Thanks to our partnership with the AAA, the AUA is delighted to offer an exclusive opportunity for one of our members to attend this year’s conference, held 14-15 May in East London, South Africa.

About the event

The AAA represents a new initiative in higher education in South Africa, formed from a union between the Higher Education Faculty Administrators Forum and the Examinations Administrators Forum. This year marks their third annual conference, with a focus on addressing current challenges facing staff in VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) times.

What does this opportunity include?

The AUA is offering one delegate the chance to represent us in South Africa at the AAA annual conference in May. We will prioritise applicants who specify that they are willing to deliver a working session. The successful applicant will receive a bursary of £500 towards travel and accommodation costs as well as free entrance to the conference. What’s more, if the successful applicant delivers a working session at the conference, they will also receive 3 free nights of accommodation.

The conference theme

The theme for this year’s conference is the challenges faced by professional services staff in VUCA times (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity) and the issues these challenges may pose for mental health, as well as possible methods for managing these difficulties. Potential topics of interest for working sessions could therefore include: mental wellness and mental preparedness of staff, coping with pressure at work and managing traumatic situations, amongst others.

If you would like to know more, why not read Phil Taylor’s blog which describes his experience of representing the AUA at last year’s AAA conference?
