About this Workshop
Spend the day with ARC Registrars to see how you can get ahead in registry services. You may be planning for the role of Academic Registrar (or equivalent) as your next career move, or maybe you are already planning for this in a few years’ time. We can help!
Come to listen to Academic Registrars as they share with you their journeys, and what they have learnt along the way. You will learn about the skills and behaviours that are helpful to carry out this role, and start reflecting on which of these you might need to focus on for your own development. We will share some tips on how to manage experts and how to build your own network. This session, delivered by ARC (Academic Registrars Council) gives a honest account of the interesting and varied role of the Academic Registrar.

What you will do:
The session will have a number of facilitators so that there is a variety of voices and perspectives to learn from. There will be opportunities to discuss with other attendees and to practice some of the skills identified.

Matt Brindley-Sadler
Academic Registrar, University of Winchester
After nearly 20 years in a variety of commercial sector roles from ceramics manufacturing to civil aviation, I decided that I was ready to embark on higher study as a mature student. Quickly becoming part of the furniture at my previous institution, I started my career in Higher Education within Admissions focusing on UKBA (as it was back then!) compliance. I then juggled two postgraduate degrees at different institutions, part time lecturing and my admissions work. After a swerve into academia, eventually taking over as programme leader for Law, I accelerated into an Associate Dean role for student recruitment and portfolio development. A natural progression followed whereby I took over as Director for a satellite campus in London and delivered a 23k m2 campus expansion in the middle of the pandemic. After leaving in early 2022, I took a break before commencing my current Academic Registrar role at the University of Winchester in November 2022 where I am delivery lead for new strategic objectives within curriculum, regulatory and student experience projects. My career as been one whereby I have never shied from opportunity or responsibility and have been very fortunate to help shape internal (new Academic Strategy), lead on external developments (with IfATE/DfE for T Levels and HTQs) as well as aid in shaping policy within professional networks (inaugural Chair Practitioner for London Higher EDI network). Developing others to realise their career aspirations are both achievable and attainable is a passion and I enjoy seeing the positive impact of collaborative mentorship and coaching.”
