Developing self and others
Developing self and others is a behaviour that focuses on demonstrating commitment to ongoing professional development: both your own and that of the people around you. The AUA can help you to strengthen this behaviour in many different ways. For example, you could start your professional development journey by using our CPD wheel to complete a self-assessment of your strengths and areas for improvement; this will provide you with an essential foundation for any future Personal Development Plan.
Alternatively, if you are looking for a bigger challenge or a more structured approach, then you could consider applying to study the AUA PgCert in Higher Education Administration, Management and Leadership. This allows you to gain a qualification whilst clearly signalling commitment to your continued development.
Of course, developing self and others is not just about your own individual development, it is also about demonstrating how you are supporting those around you to achieve their full potential and there are plenty of volunteering opportunities with the AUA that allow you to do just that. You could get involved in representing the AUA locally by becoming a Network coordinator or Branch Advocate, directly contributing to the professional development of colleagues by helping to facilitate and run events and activities in your area.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking about how might approach ‘Developing self and others’ and the list of opportunities is by no means exhaustive, they were chosen to highlight that no matter what your individual development needs there is an AUA activity that will work for you.
