Steve Taylor has over 30 years’ experience in higher education, spanning roles as a tutor, academic manager, and senior executive. He has held leadership positions across a wide range of provider types, including universities, HE in FE, alternative providers, and international pathways, with institutions such as the University of West London, University of Northampton, Warwickshire College Group, Oxford International Education Group, and Arden University. His career has given him a unique perspective on the sector and a strong commitment to student-centred approaches.
A Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, Steve has contributed to national policy and regulation as a TEF Advisory Group member, TEF panellist, and co-author of the Academic Credit Framework. He has also represented the HE in FE sector as part of the AoC HE Policy Group and presented at sector events including QAA, AoC, and Westminster Forum conferences. His leadership has consistently delivered enhancements to curriculum, teaching and learning, and student support services, resulting in measurable improvements in student satisfaction and outcomes.
One of the most significant phases of Steve’s career was his time as Dean of Higher Education at Warwickshire College Group, where he implemented the institution’s first HE Strategy, secured BDAP and University Centre title, and led major improvements in student outcomes despite the challenges of the pandemic. Known for his collaborative style and ability to deliver transformational change, Steve brings both breadth and depth of expertise to AHEP Consulting, helping institutions strengthen strategy, student experience, and organisational resilience in complex times.
