About this Workshop

Higher education is navigating some of its most challenging times, and strong, effective leadership has never been more important.

At the centre of this leadership is the Academic Registrar: guiding the academic lifecycle, ensuring integrity in student administration, and providing stability in times of change. The role is both challenging and rewarding, balancing strategic oversight with operational excellence, and influencing the student experience across the whole institution. But what does the role really involve, and how can you prepare for it? That’s where our ever-popular Aspiring Academic Registrars day comes in. This one-day event is designed specifically for those with ambitions in registry and student administration leadership.

Come to listen to Academic Registrars as they share with you their journeys, and what they have learnt along the way. You will learn about the skills and behaviours that are helpful to carry out this role, and start reflecting on which of these you might need to focus on for your own development. We will share some tips on how to manage experts and how to build your own network. This session, delivered by ARC (Academic Registrars Council) gives a honest account of the interesting and varied role of the Academic Registrar.

Why attend?

By attending this session you will gain insight into the role of an Academic Registrar and start thinking about if this role is for you – and how you might get there. You should attend if you are interested in exploring your career choices within registry services and to make time for some reflective practice on what you could do in the near future to progress your career.

What you will do:

The session will have a number of facilitators so that there is a variety of voices and perspectives to learn from. There will be opportunities to discuss with other attendees and to practice some of the skills identified.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this session, delegates will be able to:

1. Identify skills and behaviours needed for a successful career in a university registry department
2. Compare a variety of career journeys undertaken by others
3. Create an action plan for your career next steps

Is this workshop right for you?

This event is relevant to Deputy Academic Registrars who may be looking to progress in the next two years, or senior administrators considering moving into an Academic Registrar role in the future.
