Accreditation
A note regarding Accreditation at the AUA
You may have heard that the AUA is working on a new five-year strategy which includes a review of our membership structure and professional development portfolio.
These developments mean that our Accreditation scheme is changing, so we will no longer be accepting new applications for the enhanced status of Accreditation or Fellowship. If you were thinking of submitting an application, or you already hold either Accredited or Fellowship status, then don’t worry – we will be releasing further information soon!
If you have any queries, please contact the Professional Development team accreditation@aua.ac.uk
The benefits
As a member of the AUA your post nominal letters (MAUA) are a sign of your commitment to, and pride in your professional identity. The AUA Accreditation Scheme provides a clear path to take you and your career further. You can become an Accredited Member (AMAUA) or Fellow (FAUA) of the Association. These recognise a deeper commitment to your ongoing professional development (and that of others) and acknowledge the impact and influence of this on your professional practice.
- Stand out in a competitive job market
- Embark on a clear career development path
- Learn and keep up with the latest professional practice
Which level is right for you?
As you progress in your career, you’ll start to develop your skills and knowledge and Accredited Member status recognises this development and the effect this has had on how you work.
As you become a more experienced HE professional you spend more time supporting others and the impact of your own development reaches further. You can apply for Fellowship if you can demonstrate how your own development has influenced and helped others develop themselves and their careers.
Accreditation for graduates of the AUA PgCert
For students currently studying the PgCert, on successful completion of the award, Accredited Member status will be applied. Please note this only applies for current AUA students and will not apply to students starting as AHEP members.

Following the first review of an application, the reviewers may ask you to supply additional information. Once you have resubmitted, if your application is still not approved, the reviewers will provide feedback and advice on how your application may be strengthened for a new future submission.
If your application is approved there won’t be any increase to your membership subscription, you’ll just need to keep paying the subscription which is correct for your salary band.
