Action Learning Set (ALS) Mentoring
as part of the brand-new MSc in Higher Education Management and Leadership
We are seeking experienced education professionals to volunteer as Action Learning Set (ALS) mentors for our MSc module “Developing Self and Professional Leadership Practice.” This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development of future higher education leaders while enhancing your own professional practice. We currently need 6 mentors to begin in January 2025, and we’re also building a bank of mentors to support future cohorts and provide coverage if needed.
The Role
As an ALS mentor, you will facilitate small groups of 4-5 postgraduate students through three online 90-minute sessions between February and May 2025. You will help participants:
– Navigate professional challenges and development opportunities
– Reflect on their leadership practice
– Connect their experiences to the AHEP Professional Framework
– Maximize the value of peer learning and reflection
Mentor Pool Structure
Immediate opportunities: 6 positions starting January 2025
Reserve pool: Additional qualified mentors will join our mentor bank for:
– Backup support if needed during the semester
– Priority consideration for future cohorts
– Opportunities to engage in other related mentoring activities
– Maximize the value of peer learning and reflection
Time Commitment
– Mentor development online session: Week commencing 27th January 2025
– ALS Online Session 1: Week commencing 10th February 2025
– ALS Online Session 2: Week commencing 7th April 2025
– ALS Online Session 3: Week commencing 26th May 2025
Requirements
– AHEP membership at Accredited or Fellow level
– Prior experience with action learning sets or coaching is desirable but not essential
– Training will be provided
