London South Bank University is looking for an Group Director of Governance, Compliance and Legal Services to join their team as a senior leader who can bring authoritative legal judgement and a strong commercial and regulatory perspective to their most significant decisions.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape a modern, influential legal service, strengthen their internal capability and ensure that external advice is commissioned intelligently and proportionately.
They are not looking for someone simply to manage legal risk or maintain established governance processes. They want a colleague who will bring ideas, judgement and energy; someone who can see the bigger picture, build trusted relationships and ensure that legal and governance expertise informs decisions at the right point. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the function, develop its people and create a more proactive and responsive service across the Group.
Main Activities and Responsibilities Include:
- Advise on governance architecture, committee structures, delegated authorities and organisational accountability.
- Act as principal governance and legal adviser to LSBU Group, including advising the Group CEO and Vice-Chancellor, Group Executive, Chairs and governing bodies on implications arising from areas such as organisational transformation, estates development, major contracts, market expansion, partnerships, acquisitions and new operating models.
- Lead governance support services across LSBU Group, including internal governance and the Executive Office, together with associated line management.
- Ensure effective and efficient management of internal and external legal provision, developing internal capability and ensuring proportionate use of external advisers
- Lead the Governance, Legal and Assurance Function.
- Champion a culture of good governance across LSBU Group.
